Three years after it arrived in Ireland, UK-listed retailer Poundland is planning to open six new Dealz stores in Ireland, which will create over 300 new jobs in the coming year. It currently operates 35 shops here, including a new flagship 5,000 square foot shop at the Ilac Shopping Centre in Dublin.

Chief executive Jim McCarthy said “The plan is to add six additional shops in the next 12 months but we might actually add to that,” Mr McCarthy said. “We’ve got a lot of growth to come.” The Poundland chief executive said it would also consider establishing a distribution centre here at some point in the future.

Since launching in Ireland in late September 2011, Dealz has invested over €53.6m into the Irish economy and created 1,000 new jobs. Today’s announcement will see a further commitment of over €4.5m over the next 12 months.
