Yesterday and today have seen huge jobs boosts for the West and East of Ireland! Have you had your week brightened up with the prospect of local employment or an injection of activity into your local economy?
Yesterday it was announced by US giant Apple that it is progressing with investment plans for a €850m Data Centre in Athenry, Co. Galway. The green, energy efficient, environmentally friendly project will create up to 300 jobs throughout the construction phase. Approximately 100 jobs are expected to be created when fully operational.
Today Penneys announced it is to start trading at the Liffey Valley Shopping Centre with the promise of a €26m extension to the complex. The construction of the extension is estimated to create 225 jobs and when opened it is anticipated that 450 jobs will be created with some being part-time and others full-time.
But the good news didn’t just stop there. ESB announced today that they have 300 apprenticeship positions up for grabs. The apprenticeship will consist of a 23 weeks of training in ESB’s training centre in Portlaoise, Co. Laois. There will also be 42 weeks spent with Solas in IT Colleges and on-the-job training segments over a 4 year period.
