An American company that delivers data protection services has created 94 new technology jobs in Belfast in an investment of more than £6m.

Proofpoint, Inc. said its Belfast base would serve as an operations and support hub for customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Invest NI has offered more than £600,000 of support for the new jobs.

The announcement has been welcomed by Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster. “Proofpoint recognised the benefits of establishing a European centre here, including the availability of high quality technical and sales staff, as well as the high-speed telecoms links between Northern Ireland, North America and Europe,” she said.

The company’s chief executive, Gary Steele, said a Belfast expansion was chosen with the aim of broadening distribution and support networks.
