Dublin head-quartered Openhydro have been unveiled by Canadian officials as the successful bidder for a new project aimed at harnessing tidal wave in the harsh conditions of the Bay of Fundy.
While the company has no projects under way here in Ireland, it has been successful in their bid for this contract worth over €6m from a country which already has one of the cleanest electricity source mixes. With just under two thirds of their electricity being generated from renewable sources, Canada would appear to be well versed in what constitutes good technology and innovation when it comes to harnessing energy from renewable sources. This is a major boost and a commendation of the work done by Open hydro. We hope to see more projects with Openhydro start-up and in Ireland too.
