Journal Media plans to create 35 jobs, bringing the total number employed at its Golden Lane, Dublin offices to 80. The new roles are mainly for journalists, with a particular focus on sport.

“We started Journal Media four years ago to capture the emerging market for news consumption on smartphones,” said CEO and co-founder Brian Fallon. “We’ve proven the business model and are now looking to invest further to meet the demands of our growing audiences and commercial partners.”

Journal Media currently has 370,000 daily readers across its titles and 1.5m downloads of its mobile apps to date. It attracts over four million unique users to its sites each month. Following a strategic review, the company is increasing the level of investment, with a goal of doubling the number of daily readers by 2017. Turnover in 2014 is expected to be just under €3m, and is projected to grow to €5m in 2015.
