The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has released figure for the level of ecommerce in Ireland and Irish businesses are proving to be keeping with European trends and even surpassing them in some aspects. According to the CSO figures reported in the Irish Independent today, half of large businesses now sell online (44% of their total revenue) and a quarter of small businesses now sell online (13% of their total sales volume) to their customers.
Another side of the statistics is the percentage of Irish companies who purchase online themselves with 69% turning to the internet to purchase goods/services. This would equate to approximately one third of the value of all their purchases.
It will be interesting to see the figures relating to what percentage of Christmas shopping was done online by consumers compared to purchases made at the till. How will you be making your purchases this Christmas?
