Crowley Carbon To Create 50 Jobs In €10m Boost For Solar Power Push

Energy-services business Crowley Carbon is to create a further 50 jobs in Enniskerry, Co Wicklow as part of a €10m investment in solar energy.

Three new projects in Ireland will result in Crowley Solar increasing the total solar energy produced in Ireland by 50pc.

Crowley Solar has already completed a 6MW solar installation in the UK and will be completing projects in Ghana, Mexico, Poland and Ireland this year.

The new jobs will be based at the company’s headquarters in Powerscourt Estate, Enniskerry, and will bring the total number employed by Crowley Carbon globally to more than 250.

Last June, Crowley Carbon announced that 187 jobs will be created over the next three years with support from Enterprise Ireland.

However, a spokeswoman for the company said that the 50 jobs would be in addition to those already announced.

Chief executive Norman Crowley said Crowley Solar’s aim is to install over 1,000 MW of solar in Ireland over the next five years for its corporate customers, helping Ireland reduce its carbon emissions by a further 250,000 tonnes a year.

“Ireland’s position on solar is unfortunately quite poor, with our installed base of solar standing at a mere 8MW in contrast to the UK, with similar sunlight, having 1,600 times more solar than we do,” he said.

Established in 2010, Crowley Carbon’s client list includes Johnson & Johnson, Associated British Foods and Proctor and Gamble.

Crowley Carbon is the fourth business founded by Mr Crowley.

According to accounts for Crowley Carbon, the company had accumulated profits of €630,000 by the end of 2017.
