Jobs are being created in Kingscourt, Co. Cavan with Lagan Brick re-opening their brick manufacturing facility which they previously closed in 2011. According to Lagan’s General Manager Jody Guilfoyle, the upturn in the construction market both in the UK and in Ireland have resulted in an increased demand for Lagan’s products. The estimated demand for bricks in the UK alone for 2015 is 2.2 billion bricks.
The company will initially commission one kiln on site producing 12 million bricks per annum with 20 of the jobs to be filled immediately. The remaining 10 jobs will be introduced on a phased basis as they bring a second kiln online at the manufacturing facility, producing a further 8 million bricks per annum.
The current brick market in Ireland has an estimated annual demand of 30 million bricks. This demand is currently being served by imports from other countries. Essentially, this will mean the re-opening of the Lagan Brick facility in Kingscourt, Co. Cavan will be Ireland’s only such brick manufacturing facility. For the full article see the Irish Times.
