Building supplier Grafton Group is to add 170 new jobs in Ireland over the next two years as the construction industry continues to improve.
Grafton, which owns a number of builder and plumber merchant stores including Chadwicks, Heiton Buckley, Sam Hire, Telfords and Davies, will open at least four new stores in the year ahead.
One hundred of the new jobs will be created this year with the remaining 70 to be added in 2018.
It will bring the number of jobs added by the company to 350 since 2014.
The company said the new positions reflect the strong recovery in the repairs and maintenance sector as well as a modest increase in the number of new builds.
The new stores will be designed to accommodate easier access and delivery for builders operating in congested urban locations.
“These roles represent a significant opportunity for young people to join a growth industry and avail of the significant training and development provided within the company,” said Grafton’s Irish CEO Eddie Kelly.
“We see this as further evidence of a tangible and sustainable turning point for the construction sector in Ireland,” Mr Kelly added.
Figures released earlier this month showed employment in the construction sector grew by 40pc in the first quarter of the year compared to 2016.
